Beginning March 2004, Sahara Manoranjan and Percept D'Mark will be launching a massive nationwide talent hunt called 'Mr & Ms Bollywood'.
As the name suggests, the exercise is being undertaken to 'discover' - not one or two - but 30 potential film stars. The talent hunt will be kicked off in the first week of March, and will be quickly followed by a number of road shows across the country that will be hosted by well-known film personalities.
Percept D'Mark, already into big-ticket celebrity management, will be conducting and supervising the logistics of the event, which is being supported by Sahara Manoranjan.
Explaining the reason for supporting the event, Abhijeet Sarkar, head, corporate communications, Sahara India, says: "The Sahara India Parivaar is known for its commitment to the entertainment sector. This sector is witnessing massive growth, and we believe this is only the beginning. Events like 'Mr & Ms Bollywood' are an investment in the future."
To guide the talent hunt, an advisory board comprising of Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt, Raveena Tandon, Asha Parekh, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Smita Thackeray, Sarika, Ken Ghosh, Ashok Salian and Manish Malhotra has been constituted. The main job of this panel will be to decide the process of selection.
The entire process will be three-tier. And there will be no entry fee. The selection and elimination process will be audited by Ernst & Young.
"We roped in E&Y to ensure that correct systems are followed and that the results are fair," says Alan Mans president films, Percept D'Mark. "From the lakhs of entries that we expect, 30 talented individuals will be selected. All 30 winners will be signed for lead roles in films and TV. I don't think it gets any bigger or better. Aisa chance aur kahan."
A massive media blitz, with advertisements, announcements and distribution of forms begins in early March.
