Court instructs FFI to be bias free

The petition filed by Bhavna Talwar against the FFI was up for hearing today regarding the jury's choice of 'Eklavya' over 'Dharm' for this year's Oscar nominations before Honorable Chief Justice Shri Swatanter Kumar and Honorable Justice Dr. D. Y. Chandrachud.

The court directed the FFI to set their house in order and has asked them to formulate a bias free process for selection of India's entry to the Oscars before the next hearing. The court directed the FFI to formulate this process and share it with Mrs. Bhavna Talwar's senior counsel Mr. Ravi Kadam before sharing it with the court.

Bhavna Talwar, director of 'Dharm' said, "We filed this petition to ensure a fair and unbiased selection procedure going forward. We are glad that the Court has recognized the faulty selection procedure and has set in motion a process to ensure that the best movie from India is sent to the Oscars. A jury open to external forces and biases will only damage India's chances of eventually winning the golden statuette. We look forward to the FFI setting this procedure in place."
